SFCMP in Concert

$15 - $35

Jan 19 2018 Fung, Zorn, Brown, Rzewski SFCMP in Concert

Our In the Laboratory series showcases large-scale contemporary classical works that push the boundaries of the concert format and experience.  In this concert, John Zorn’s “Cobra” and Frederic Rzewski’s “Les Moutons de Panurge” engage the large-ensemble energies of the performers to create unheard-of possibilities. Led by Grammy-nominated SFCMP percussionist and frequent Zorn collaborator William Winant, the performers are prompted to execute different instrumental techniques, sonic textures, or playing styles in various ensemble formations, resulting in a dynamic and often surprising real-time musical compositions. Completing the program are Pulitzer Prize-winning Don Byron’s 7 Etudes, and two works by Bay Area composers, Under the Rug by Ryan Brown, and Twist for guitar and violin by Vivian Fung.

Encouraging and mentoring the next generation of new music performers, SFCMP will once again join San Francisco Conservatory of Music students on this program.
