Karen Gottlieb (harp) has performed with the San Francisco Symphony as second harpist for more than two decades, touring extensively with the orchestra on their domestic, European and Asian tours as well as performed on their many recordings and DVDs. She served as principal harpist with California Symphony for twenty years, and she has been a member of the SF Symphony’s ‘AIM’ ensembles including 4 Sounds, Strings & Things, THAT! Group and Silver & Gold, Plus. Locally, Karen also performs with Earplay, Empyrean, ECCO and Left Coast Ensembles, the Skywalker Recording Symphony and frequently with the San Francisco Opera and Ballet orchestras. She received her Bachelors at the University of Washington, Seattle and her Masters in Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music. She is currently on the faculty of SF State University, Mills College and she teaches & coaches privately. As a certified harp technician for Lyon & Healy and Salvi Harps, Ms. Gottlieb maintains and repairs harps locally, within the US and abroad. She joined SFCMP in 1990.
