A world premiere by up-and-coming composer Emma Logan, West Coast premieres by Laura Schwendinger and Augusta Read Thomas, and music from San Francisco’s Mary Kouyoumdijian showcase these sonic narratives about women, by women.

Bay Area artists past and present unite for a captivating celebration of music and heritage. Listeners will take their own sonic journey with Jonathan Bingham’s Untitled. Former SFCMP Artistic Director Steven Schick returns as percussion soloist for the West Coast premiere of Zosha Di Castri’s Touch/Trace. The quest for freedom expressed by South African poets is amplified in Olly Wilson’s poignant No More. SFCM students join onstage for Thomas Adès’s vivacious Chamber Symphony.
Join us on February 20, 2025 to honor composer John Adams for his immense contributions to the music of our time and to the Bay Area's music scene. Sound & Wine is an annual fundraising event dedicated to the Contemporary Music Players' contribution to the Bay Area's cultural ecology.
The illustrious Northern Lights are front and center in this journey through music, color, and light. A world premiere from Mika Pelo is a prelude to Kaija Saariaho’s iridescent Lichtbogen, Jesper Nordin’s sparkling Surface Scintillantes, and the illuminating Jubilees from Magnus Lindberg. With lighting design to enhance the music, this immersive experience will dazzle the eyes, ears, and soul.
Delve into the transformative power of music in this season finale featuring the music of Latinx composers. The Friction Quartet and guest vocalists perform Paul Mortilla’s" Paradisio: Weavers of Light" in a stirring prelude. The polyrhythmic groove of Tania Léon’s "Indígena, "Ana Lara’s tranquil and intimate "Y los oros la Luz," the West Coast premiere of Miguel Chuaqui’s "Tiempo Norte, Tiempo" Sur follow, with Gabriela Ortiz’s "Corpórea" concluding this concert with a flash of brilliance and vivacity.
